Wireless Networks - FAQs
Of all the upgrades we are asked to perform, the wireless network
is the most popular. You can see why, the convenience and
flexibility they provide is extremely appealing.
We have clients who like to look at the BBC news website over
their cornflakes, watch the test match from under their favourite
tree in the garden, monitor their online share trading whilst
cooking the lasagne, or send their emails from the couch without
being banished to the study. We have clients in historic houses
where drilling holes for cables is unthinkable, we have clients
who want to share the cost of a broadband line between a few
neighbours. Once you cut the cables, computing becomes a different
experience that is only limited (as the old cliché would have it),
by your imagination.
Is my data secure?
Well you might ask. The most common mistake that people make when
the return home with the hardware for a wireless network is they
get the connections working, but forget to set-up the security.
This creates two risks: Firstly anyone in your immediate area
with a wireless network card in their PC can make free use of
your Internet connection. Secondly anyone can access files that
are shared between your own PCs.
What should I do now?
Talk to us. The technology is there to make sure that your data is secure,
it just needs to be applied correctly. This is something we
have daily experience in and can help you to set up.
We can also provide advice of how get the best performance from
your network and how to get wireless signals travelling to even
the most unreachable of locations.
Just give us a call (0118 962 5690) or send us an
email and we will be happy
to talk you through the process and discuss your particular situation.
